December 14, 2008
We've reduced prices on remaining pens. It's the end of the year and we must move stock. Our next sale is tentatively scheduled for December 21, 2008, Sunday. Beside usual great pens we will have a lot of discount material at super-discounted prices.
November 30, 2008
Welcome to our latest sale. We trust all of you had an enjoyable holiday with relatives and friends, survived Black Friday, and are looking forward to a wonderful holiday season.
With the end of 2008 we will have two more sales beginning with this one today. We have been fortunate to acquire a number of pens made by Platinum and offer them for your consideration. There are a few pens that you are unlikely or never to see on eBay and we have tried to offer our best descriptions. Unfortunately, the photo taking skills are not the best. Please ask questions. We should be around most of Sunday and, as always, respond to inquiries in the order they are received.
With this sale we include converters with a number of pens and this is noted in the descriptions. For other pens and some short pens converters are not available. For pens without converters we offer a 10-pack of vintage Platinum cartridges (most are good) or two Pilot cartridges. Additional converters, if in stock, are available for sale.
All numbering is from left to right.
Platinum Tray 1
- Platinum Pt Stainless: Most think the Plat Plats came only in larger sterling models (see Plat Tray 3 below for those) but, they came in almost every model. see a picture of the nib HERE. This is a new pen of brushed stainless with a MEDIUM nib marked Pt ALLOY. Doubly rare. And, new with sticker. Perfect condition. Was $110. Now $90.
- Platinum Stainless: Brushed stainless with red section. FINE 18K White Gold nib. NEW, with Y5000 sticker. Perfect condition. Was $65. Now $60.
- Platinum Aluminum Large: Owing to the light weight my guess has always been this is made of aluminum. Vertical lines with floral decoration on cap band. Red section. FINE 18K White Gold nib. NEW, with sticker. Was $60. Now $50.
- Platinum Aluminum Short: As above, but short, with turquoise section. 18K SOFT FINE nib. Gently used pen. There is some ink residue around the sides of the nib (I do not have an ultrasonic cleaner) and very tiny nicks on the cap. Turquoise is an odd color for Japanese pens and matches the aluminum perfectly. Was $45. Now $40.
- Platinum Crosshatch: Photoengraved stainless cap and black barrel and section. 14K FINE nib. NEW, with sticker. Was $50. Now $40.
- Platinum Short Black: What makes this pen exceptional is the 14K BROAD nib. As most know less than 10% of vintage Japanese pens cam ewith BROAD nibs. Very smooth. Was $70. Now $65. See additional photo of nib HERE.
- Platinum 1950s: Unusual and rare design. Gently used model from the 1950s in fantastic condition. Snap on cap. Squeeze filler. Very flexi nib with some tooth. Nib is marked PLATINUM/ S-N logo/K14OSPEN. SOLD Super Deal! Wish I had an ultrasonic cleaner to get out some of the dirt between the inside of the cap and the metal liner that fits on to the section.
- Platinum 3776 Tortoise: Most are familiar with the model so no detailed description is required. I bought the pen because it has a smooth MEDIUM nib. hen received I saw it had some problems and I offer it to whoever needs an inexpensive user. Pen is used with some metal delamination near the feed (see picture here), a crack in the cap (contained by the ring), and a lose cap band (it rotates – does not come off). You can look at it this way if need be - SOLD for a nib and section. HERE is a picture.
- Platinum Karakusa 1: Stainless steel. Very finely brushed decoration over heavier brushed background. Polished stainless jewels and clip. Black section. 18K White Gold nib. This is the rarer model. Y6,000 sticker. NEW. Was $90. Now $80.
- Platinum Karakusa 2: Probably stainless too. Rubbed decoration to produce a slightly polished finish. Background s matte. We have two for sale. The one shown with white section and Y4000 sticker. SOLD. It has a 14K FINE nib. The second (not shown) has a black section with, likely, a plated FINE nib. SOLD.
- Platinum Red Flowers: Silvery lacquered finish with gold jewels. Decoration is gold and red flowers at the cap band. 14K FINE nib. NEW pen. Was $35. Now $25. Some scratches on barrel from posting.
- Platinum Leather: Not sure what type. Although a new pen the gold wash on the top and bottom jewel has worn off. Doesn’t look bad and almost complements the gold finish. Leather in perfect condition. Never used! NEW! 14K FINE nib with slight flex. Will include converter to move it out. Was $65. Now SOLD
- Platinum Riviere Stainless: Photo-engraved crosshatch pattern. 14K White Gold FINE nib. Very smooth. NEW! Pristine! Y5000 sticker. Priced to move. Was $45. Now $40.
- Platinum Smiley Face: One sees these from time to time in Japan. Any Japanese pen in yellow is rare! Make great gifts. Unusual!!! Unfortunately, it comes with a plated nib. but, it is nicely flexible and real smooth. Should cost more. Was $50. Now $40.
- Platinum Bonita: Deep metallic blue. NEW pen with springy 14K FINE nib. SOLD
- Platinum Presidential: Big pen with wave design on clip. Big P for Platinum on top of cap. New pen with slightly springy 18K FINE nib. SOLD
- Platinum Workhorse: When reissued in the late 1990s, it was marketed under the name Workhorse. Lightly used pen with smooth 14K White Gold FINE nib. Matte nib with light scuffing. This is normal for matte finishes. Was $40. Now $35.

All of the pens on this tray are sterling silver – no plate. If you wish to consider this part of my collection, they were. The is surface oxidation as they are real silver. I do not recall any being polished. They are as they came to me. All are reasonably priced and are not what you find from the eBay crowd. You may never see these pens again at these prices. All will come with Platinum converters.
- Platinum Pt Basketweave: New pen with MEDIUM Pt ALLOY nib. You’ve heard or read about the rarity of Platinum Platinum pens with Platinum nibs and they are. Most come with WG nibs too but, Pt nibs are the most collectable. They are stiff and very smooth. No flaws. Was $275. Now $250.
- Platinum Pt Black Stripes: This would be a significant addition for the black striped pen collector. I know you are out there! New pen with engraving stripes filled with black lacquer. FINE Pt ALLOY nib. No flaws. SOLD.
- Platinum Crosshatch: New pen with 18K White Gold BROAD nib with a slight spring. Saved this one for the nib. As you know BROAD nibs are difficult to find. Perfect condition. Was $225. Now $200. This is the most common of the silver models.
- Platinum Gold over Silver: Sorry. Forgot the name of the design and platinumplace.tc is down, so cannot use their online library. Theirs had the inlaid nib. New pen with raised rough design. Some of which has gold plate or vermeille. MEDIUM 18K White Gold nib with nice spring. Models with external nibs are considered rarer. Was $300. Now $265.
- Platinum Silver: Similar but different design to #4 without vermeille. Believe it was called the Galaxy. 18K White Gold FINE nib with slight spring. New pen. As there are smooth polished areas you will see some handing marks in these locations. SOLD.
- Platinum 77th Birthday of Hirohito: This is a special commemorative Limited Edition. It is shown under LEs in Lambrou’s FPOTW. Comes with 18K White Gold MEDIUM nib that is very smooth and slightly flexible. I might be wrong but don’t think I’ve ever seen another in the States and never on eBay. I know it has been dipped as I done so. New pen. Was $600. Now $475. Need to move. To break even. There are a number of pictures of this pen in these links below: Hirohito 1 Hirohito 2 Hirohito 3 Hirohito 4 Hirohito 5
- Platinum Rhodium Plated: This and #8 are the largest silver pens made by any Japanese maker. They are also heavy. At the base of the cap is written SILVER & RHODIUM E.P. Has Pt ALLOY nib that is unmarked as to size and appears to be a MEDIUM. This is a slightly used pen with minor plating loss on the polished areas. It appears as dimples not wholesale areas. As such, SOLD. Very reasonable
- Platinum Crosshatch Large: Lightly used. No dings, dents, etc. SOLD.
Platinum Y2K
Y2K.1 Y2K.2 Y2K.3 Y2K.4 Y2K.5 Y2K.6
We have not seen this pen for sale for a number of years. It is a special commemorative edition of 300 (have also read 600 but think this incorrect) pens to celebrate the year 2000. The pen comes in original cherry color wood presentation box with converter, cleaning cloth, and unopened bottle of black ink. Pen is hard rubber with guilloche finish on cap and barrel. Around the base of the cap is written Platinum Y2K 2000.the nib is a 22K BROAD that is smooth and flexi. This is pen number 0291. There is some slight rubbing on the box cover and if you look closely there exists a slight crack above the left hinge. This does not go through the top to the exterior. This pen came from a shop and this was the showcase model. Not ready for eBay special: SOLD. They sold out for much more.
